MonteKristo Vineyards marked the launch of its flagship wine – Magnus – with a gala event on 1 June at the MonteKristo Estates’ wine vaults. The wine is MonteKristo’s first premium, limited-edition vintage produced from locally-grown and –sourced grapes. No more than 6,943 bottles of Magnus 2004 have been produced. Wax seals on the capsule and label guarantee the authenticity of each bottle from this first limited edition. With a name inspired by Charlemagne, the great Holy Roman Emperor, Magnus is produced mainly from indigenous Maltese grape varieties to which a small percentage of Shiraz and Cabernet grapes have been blended to create a smoother wine and to exalt its bouquet. MonteKristo Vineyards forms part of MonteKristo Estates which combines core competencies in wine and beverages production with aspects of the tourism, leisure and recreation industries. MonteKristo Estates takes inspiration from the concept of agri-tourism and draws also upon the Islands' cultural heritage to create innovative, quality visitor attractions, venues and activities. Situated in the heart of the Maltese countryside, MonteKristo offers purpose-built underground wine vaults and the Chateau - a landmark building which brands MonteKristo Estates. MonteKristo's vineyards, located in the south-west of Malta and on Gozo, cover some 200,000m² and careful viticulture actively promotes the production of both indigenous and international grape varieties. This, combined with tight quality control and state-of-the-art production methods, allows MonteKristo to push the boundaries in terms of production of quality Maltese wine.
